51·´²îºÚÁÏ is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefit package to our full-time faculty members. While all full-time faculty must enroll in medical insurance, you have many options for additional insurances. Please review the information below carefully and completely.
The insurance year for SISC medical insurance runs from October 1st to September 30th. The insurance year for Dental and Vision insurance runs from January 1st to December 31st. There will be one Open Enrollment period for all insurance coverage each year in August.
Medical, dental and vision coverage is available for spouses/domestic partners and dependent children (up to the age 26).
Open Enrollment June 16 - August 15
The annual open enrollment period is now open. This is a changes only open enrollment; you do not need to take any action if you would like your current elections to continue into the new plan year.
Full-time Faculty may elect to make changes to medical plans (effective 10/1/2025) and dental and vision (effective 1/1/2026). Faculty will have an opportunity to make AFA changes in the Fall.
Please use the forms available below to make plan changes or to add/remove a dependent. Completed forms must be received by Human Resources no later than 5:00 pm on Friday August 15, 2025. Submit forms via our secure dropbox at:
Changes to Medical plans effective 10/1/2025:
- Rates increase to all plans
- Two new plan options:
- Proactive Care Plan – No deductibles/No copay (see plan summary for more details)
- Waiver of Anchor Bronze Enrollment (WABE) – this option will allow you to waive medical and have primary insurance elsewhere and have access to Added Value Programs (must provide proof of coverage to enroll in WABE)
Changes to Vision and Dental plans effective 1/1/2026:
- All Dental plans allowances are increased by $500 and deductibles are being eliminated.
- Vision:
- The frame allowance under VSP will increase from $270 to $320 (featured brands) and $250 to $300 (all brands) with no increase in premium!
- Light Care Benefits are being added, this will allow the frame allowance to be used for non-prescription blue light and sunglasses.

The fringe contribution is a District provided amount designed to offset the cost of health and welfare benefits for each qualified employee and their eligible dependents. Please see the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for more information on this contribution.

Vision Insurance is offered through VSP. Please see plan documents for more information.
Dental Insurance is offered through Delta Dental. There is a two-year enrollment commitment; you will not be allowed to cancel coverage until you have been on the plan for two years. If you do cancel your coverage, you will not be allowed to re-enroll for two years.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance: Employees are eligible for $2,000 of coverage at no-cost-to-you if elected as a new hire or during open enrollment. Employees may also choose to purchase additional coverage for themselves and their family.
AD&D 2k + Voluntary Plan Information
Life Insurance: As a new hire you are guaranteed up to two times your annual earnings not to exceed $100,000 with no health questions. If you are not a new hire and want to add life insurance during open enrollment, you will be required to complete a medical questionnaire. Additional coverage is available for family members.

American Fidelity offers a wide array of supplemental insurances including; Accident Insurance, Cancer, Disability, Life, and Critical Illness. AFA also offers Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), High-Deductible Savings Accounts (HSAs), and deferred compensation retirement accounts.
As a 51·´²îºÚÁÏ employee, you do not pay into California State Disability Insurance, however, disability insurance is available through AFA. We encourage you to consider your unique situation and any salary continuation needs you may have.
All newly hired employees must meet with an AFA representative to confirm the tax status for benefit deductions. Employees who do not meet with an AFA representative to elect into pre-tax deductions will be placed into post-tax medical, dental and vision deductions.
